Program Description

The University of Kentucky's Chairs' Academy is a homegrown leadership development program designed to encourage faculty to explore leadership career paths and to support new and prospective department chairs and academic directors.  The Chairs Academy equips participants with the essential skills required for effective institutional leadership.  The program consists of seven interactive, two-hour workshop sessions that address the full range of issues faced by front-line academic administrators at UK.  Since its inception in 2014-2015, 238 faculty members have participated as cohort members.

Program Goals

The Chairs Academy aims to develop a strong cohort of leaders who are well-prepared to collaborate effectively, apply high-quality leadership practices, and gain a deeper understanding of the University’s organizational structure and operations. Upon completion of the program, participants will be better positioned to serve as strategic leaders and more effectively manage the complexities of today’s academic units.

Program Target Audience

All new and prospective department chairs, school directors and unit leaders are encouraged to apply.

Applications are due June 30 to the Faculty Advancement Application Portal, with the selection of the cohort expected no later than August 1.
