Program Description

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) has announced a new program for mid-career faculty, the Faculty Leadership Academy.  The Academy will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in an academic leadership position. Approximately 50 hours of content will be delivered in monthly sessions throughout the academic year, alternating between in-person and virtual delivery. Participants will also commit to two to three additional hours each month, working with a faculty mentor to reflect on prior sessions and to prepare for the upcoming session. 

Program Goals

Participants will:

  • Achieve awareness of their individual leadership styles, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Develop strategies for building trust and fostering collaboration, leading to improved communication and teamwork within and across institutions
  • Gain insight into postsecondary education systemness, state and institutional governance, and the role of Kentucky's Council on Postsecondary Education in ensuring student success and academic quality
  • Foster academic quality, defined as the measurable degree to which a student's educational experience is coherent, engaging, and transformational for all learners

Eligibility and Application Process

Participants of the Faculty Leadership Academy will be full-time, mid-career faculty from public postsecondary institutions who are seeking to further develop their leadership skills.  

The Provost's Office for Faculty Advancement will use an application process and selection committee to select two faculty from the University of Kentucky to participate in the academy.

Applications will be accepted via the Faculty Advancement Application PortalThe deadline for receiving application materials via the portal is 5 pm Tuesday, September 3.  Selections will be made by Friday, September 6 and those selected will be notified by Monday, September 9.

The following documents are required to apply for the CPE Faculty Leadership Academy:

1. Applicant's vita or resume (either abbreviated or full-length versions acceptable)
2. Two-page maximum statement of interest and leadership goals

4. Signed statement of support from the candidate’s department chair or unit director
