The importance of mindful communication for mental health
Mindfulness is the practice of being consciously aware of the present moment, free of judgment. This form of communication involves the use of mindfulness practices when communicating with other people. Communication is often a learned behavior influenced by parents, peers and role models. It is beneficial for an individual to learn mindfulness principles and implement them in relationships and social interactions. Fall safety tips
- Be careful of traffic: Be aware of children crossing the street and at bus stops.
- Avoid slips and falls: Wet leaves and debris can be slippery, so be careful when walking or driving. Wet roads can also be slippery, so slow down.
- Manage seasonal allergies: Stock up on medication or natural supplies
- Wash your hands: Fall is the start of flu season.
- Check your smoke alarms: Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Test the alarms after changing the batteries.
- Have your chimney inspected at least once a year.
- Get your vehicle checked for regular maintenance: Check your tires, windshield wipers, fluids; change oil and filters.
- Provide adequate lighting: Provide good lighting around your home and in your driveway.
- Keep your furnace safe: Keep the furnace and its surrounding area clean. Keep flammable items away from the furnace and heat registers. Change the air filters regularly and schedule a regular furnace maintenance check.
- Dress for the weather: Consider dressing in layers so that you can adjust as the day get warmer. Wear reflective clothing when walking at night. Be prepared for unexpected cold weather.
- Check your winter clothing and shoes: Make sure fall and winter clothing are clean, in good condition and fits.
